Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation - a subsidiary of Suzlon Energy A/S of Denmark, the international marketing arm of Suzlon Energy Limited - has signed with Edison Mission Group (EMG) for an additional 105 MW of capacity, which includes 50 units of Suzlon’s S88 – 2.1 MW wind turbine.

Delivery of the wind turbines is expected to begin in mid-2007, and upon completion of the projects, EMG will hold more than 300 MW of Suzlon wind turbine capacity in the US.

Tulsi R Tanti, Chairman & Managing Director – Suzlon Energy Limited, emphasized the importance of the order: “These repeat orders are a testament to our technology, capability and track record. The United States is the world’s largest wind energy market, and this order marks a step forward in our drive to be among its top three suppliers.”

This new order from EMG – an Irvine, California based company – adds to the 75 Suzlon turbines being installed across the U.S, as well as 2005 agreements between EMG and Suzlon for machines already installed.  Recently, Suzlon commissioned 25 MW of its S64 – 1.25MW wind turbine for EMG’s portfolio of community-owned wind power projects in Southwest Minnesota.

“Suzlon is truly pleased that Edison Mission Group has chosen to extend its current contract for the S88 wind turbine,” said Andris Cukurs, CEO of Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation and based in Chicago, Illinois. “We are working hard to ensure customer satisfaction and believe this has contributed to repeat business,” he added.

"Suzlon continues to play an important role in Edison Mission Group's rapid expansion in the wind energy business," said Randy Mann, Managing Director of Development, EMG. "We are pleased to build on our existing relationship with this new agreement."

Suzlon Energy Limited is a fully integrated wind turbine manufacturer, ranked as the world’s fifth leading supplier of wind turbines in 2005 by BTM Consult ApS. Suzlon Energy Limited and its associate companies integrate conceptualization, design, manufacturing, operation and maintenance services to provide wind power solutions customized to meet customer requirements around the world.

Edison Mission Group manages the unregulated subsidiaries of Edison International (EIX), an electric power generator and distributor with assets totaling more than $35 billion. To date, EMG has a portfolio of 477 megawatts of wind energy projects in operation or under construction at 10 sites in Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico and Texas, and is currently developing additional projects in other states, including Illinois, Pennsylvania and Maine.  The company recently was ranked number five among wind project owners in the United States by the American Wind Energy Association.
