By Nayantara Rai and Ashwin Mohan, CNBC-TV18:

The Oil Ministry said it aims to have the RIL and RNRL matter settled one way or the other, sources said. They added that the ministry has submitted an application to the Bombay High Court to become a party to the case. "There would be no need to file a rejoinder. The court would decide if the government could be party to case," sources added.

On day two of the RIL-RNRL KG Basin case, it looks like there has finally been some concrete direction to the legal proceedings. From tomorrow onwards, the case will be heard between 12 to 2 pm under a new bench comprising Justice JN Patel and Justice KK Tated.

Since yesterday, there has been a great deal of uncertainty about timings and the bench under which this case will operate. Consequently, it also came up for mentioning before the Chief Justice today.

The Court proceedings were really interesting today. RNRL Counsel Mukul Rohtagi was pushing for a slot for next week. While on the other hand, RIL council Harish Salve did not wish to miss even a single day’s argument. The government wishes to be a rightful party to the proceedings of this case. But, according to sources, the government is not wiling to file any rejoinder currently.
