Sun Pharma`s overseas investment strategy is very conservative. In the case of their US investment they get part of their stake for cash and part from giving them the licence to sell their drugs. Add to the fact the companies they are acquiring are distressed companies at very low valuations and turning them around.
In the US with the down economy more and more people will turn to Generics which should help the better positioned Generics players like Sun Pharma, Teva, etc.
That said at a PE of 26 this stock`s valuation is on the high side. I would wait for around 1200-1300 to start a fresh position or add to your current one.
Sun`s stock has held up pretty well in the current downturn. While other Blue Chips like Reliance, etc have dropped more than 50% from their highs when the Sensex was at 21000, Sun is a natobale exception in the fact it has actually increased. A good defensive play in a down economy which keeps up with the market in an up economy(as evidenced in the last 2-3 years).
If you are interested in a riskier bet you can consider Sun Pharma Advance which would be dependent on Sun`s ability to research and patent new drugs and get licencing revenue from them....

Sun pharma invested significantly in usa and then question arise what will be the impect. In short run it may go down little. But the fundamentals are strong so it will come out.

Some times ago I recommended Sun Pharma. In fact I have been constantly recommending it since long.I am a great fan of the counter. The counter has been steady like a rock during this turmultuos period when the stocks of practically all companies, big, medium or small, have been hit hard. The counter is seeing accummulation in the price band 1400-1500. It is ready for abreak out any time now.
A couple of months ago I had given my favourite 10 counters: namely: i) Sun Pharma, Hero Honda, Castrol, Maruti, Cipla, Deccan Cement, amongst others. Most of my recommendations have either improved or at least have been steady even during current turmoil.
Disclosure: I am a shareholder and to that extent I am interested in the counter....

Considering Sun's growth prospects in terms of US ANDA' filed compared to Ranbaxy's Sun's stock price is quite low. Also Ranbaxy is under investigation from US FDA for sub-standard medicines and has been banned from selling medicines from certain manufacturing units pending full investigation. Stick with Sun and it's steller growth....

what makes u so bullish. its a high risk type of stock, see its PE, that is the proof. instead, people willing 2 take high risk can buy ranbaxy for that matter at current levels instead of sun. sun is a good stock but is fully valued and current entry will be little risky. may be at 1000-1100 it is a very good entry point to go long for the long term.

Hi,
I see nobody is posting message / views on SUN PHARMA. I hold in my portfolio right from Feb\\`08 to till date.It has moved up to 32% right from the month i bought.I see Pharma is sector which can hold bear market conditions and SUN PHARMA is the one which holds top market capital in pharma setors. Can anyone suggest me whether can i hold or sell it.
