Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.
-Corrie Ten Boom-

Worry has become epidemic lately - like the plague. Finances, jobs, morality, kids, politics. It seems the whole world is worried.

The thing about worry though, is it only seems productive. You don’t accomplish anything but getting stressed, impairing your health and feeling grumpy.

It puts us in a state where we aren’t thinking clearly. We are only thinking through fear and what if’s. We are less able to handle life. What happens will happen whether we worry about it or not.

Here are some tips to decrease your worry:

If you are feeling worried, the first thing to do is write it down. I find if I write it in a journal, my mind doesn’t have to keep going over it again and again.

Taking a long walk can help you get back into a state where you can deal with your worry.

Check your breathing. Are you breathing shallowly? Your mind needs as much oxygen as possible so take a deep breath.

Take the optimistic view about what could happen. Running an endless loop about what could go wrong doesn’t make anything better.

Put on some peppy, HAPPY music and see how fast you brighten up.

Take a certain time to worry each day and postpone worry to that time (but, not close to bedtime). During that time you can worry, but then try to shift into problem solving.

Make a plan to deal with what you are worried about. If finances have you scared, start saving. Sell some things. If you are worried about your JOB, start getting feelers out for OTHER jobs. Have your brain focus on finding your options.

If you are in a situation you don’t know how to get out of - ask for HELP.

After your worry time, soothe yourself with breathing, music, reading, yoga, prayer, or a comedy.

Do something for someone else. Get your mind of your life for a bit.
Write down what is going GOOD in your life. What do you have right now that you can be THANKFUL for? Most of what we worry about isn’t even affecting the present moment.

Work on strengthening yourself for what happens through self-care and exercise, creating a supportive community, and building character.

Question whether these worries are even realistic. Will you really get fired if you make one mistake? Will your friends really hate you if you miss the party? Will you really die if you have to give a speech?

Remember, these NEGATIVE thoughts are not necessarily TRUE. Most often the things you worry about NEVER happen. We are pretty BAD about predicting the FUTURE.

Turn off the news for awhile. The news feeds the worry machine. Just turn it off.

Remember when you handled bad situations well and with strength. You can do it again!

Enjoy today and LIVE your LIFE the best way you know how. Tomorrow will come and it might be MARVELOUS.

Rock music for President Patil`s party

Sunetra Choudhary
Thursday, October 16, 2008
(New Delhi)

It has been a year since President Pratibha Patil has been in office and there is very little we know about her personality, apart from the fact that she used to play table tennis.

Simple Maharashtrian food and good music are a few of the President`s favourite things and the 74-year-old from Jalgaon likes to add a personal touch to all Rashtrapati Bhawan dos.

So while preparing for banquets, she tastes all the vegetarian food herself. She also helps choose the music for the evening, and her choice may come as a surprise.

For her latest banquet, the President`s top request is American rock band, Dave Matthews Band.

Rashtrapati Bhawan`s naval jazz band has prepared two songs, Satellite and The Dreaming Tree, just two of the hits from the band often called one of the best musical acts of all time. The band has had to practice a lot to win the President`s approval.

Rashtrapati Bhawan sources have told NDTV that while key aides advised her on the music, keeping the guest list in mind, the President had the final word.

The only Indian entry to the President`s music list is also quite unusual. She has chosen Bappi Lahiri`s Chalte chalte as her final choice.

When President Pratibha Patil entered Rashtrapati Bhawan in 2007, she had a tough time living up to her predecessor`s image, the designer hairdo sporting rocket scientist President Kalam. However, now President Patil has shown, that in her way, she`s pretty COOL too.

Scared Christians in Kandhmal turn to Hinduism
Sampad Mahapatra
Tuesday, October 14, 2008, (Kandhmal)

On Sunday, Pope Benedict the 16th made a pointed appeal for an end to violence against Orissa`s Christian minority.

The Archbishop of Cuttack has petitioned the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe into the Nun rape case. The Supreme Court had earlier directed the Orissa government to protect Christians and arrange for extra security in the relief camps. (Watch)

The situation in Kandhmal, one of the worst affected districts, remains tense.

Terrorised by the communal riots and having to choose between faith and survival, dozens of Christians in Kandhmal are embracing Hinduism, only to ensure they get back to their homes and live in peace.

On Sunday, 18 Christians in Sarangad, who converted to Hinduism, claimed it was purely a voluntary decision.

"We were born to Christian parents and stuck to the faith for so long. But we have realised we get nothing out of being Christians. So we decided to return to Hinduism. No body has forced it on us," said Krishna Chandra Nayak, former Christian, Sarangad.

Under the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act of 1967, anyone seeking religious conversion needs to apply to the Collector and wait for proper police verification to ensure it is not being done under coercion or inducement.

But in Kandhmal on Tuesday the rules are different. You have to apply only to the local VHP head in a prescribed format and the wish will be quickly granted.

"These people had on their own given a written undertaking that they had joined the Christian faith but now they want to return to Hindu fold. I am only catering to their wishes," said Adikand Patra, Hindu priest.

The 12,000-odd Christians, who are still in relief camps fear they will be killed if they don`t become Hindus. But the state government has done little to allay such fears.

Nobel peace prize eluded Nehru too

Wed, Oct 15

Not only to Mahatma Gandhi, the Noble Peace Prize eluded India`s first Prime Minister and charismatic leader Jawahar Lal Nehru several times despite being nominated by 11 groups or individuals.

Nehru was nominated several times from 1950 to 1955 while Gandhi was nominated five times during 1937 to 1948, according to Nobel Foundation database.

Gandhi was first nominated in 1937 and finally in 1948, the year he was assassinated. "He was not awarded the Prize (as a posthumous award was not allowed by the statutes) no laureate was named for 1948 either," the database said.

Nehru`s first nomination was made in 1950 by L R Sivasubramanian, professor of Law in Delhi university.

The professor felt that Nehru deserved the award as he "established parliamentary government in India, and he had been one of the principal leaders of the independence movement. He was nominated for his neutralist foreign policy and for upholding the same principles as Gandhi."

In the same year, Nehru was also nominated by M Venkatarangaiya, a professor of Political science from Mumbai, then known as Bombay.

The evaluation for the nomination was conducted by Jens Arup Seip, a professor from Oslo, it said.

The Prize for this year went to Ralph Bunche, a professor of Harvard university, for his mediation in Palestine in late 1940s. Nehru got three nominations in 1951 by Nobel Peace laureate 1946 of Boston Emily Greene Balch. Other nominators were Lewis Hoskins, member of Americans Friends Service committee and Shrinavala Sharma, professor in university of Madras.

Leon Jouhaux, a trade union leader from France, won the peace prize in 1951.

Nehru got three nominations in 1953 also. This time several members of Belgian National Assembly nominated the Indian leader.

He was also nominated by several members of Belgian Senate and separately by several professors of Bruxelles University of Belgium but the 1953 Peace Prize went to George C Marshall, who led the US Army during World War II.

In 1954, Nehru was nominated along with British Prime Minister Clement R Atlee for their their "work for the peaceful settlement between Great Britain and India in 1947," by a Osolo professor Janes Arup Seip. Seip again nominated the duo for their leading statesmanship.

This year the prize conferred to the 0ffice of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Last time Nehru, as the data inform only till 1955, was nominated by a Swiss professor Edmond Privat.

Congress to launch stir against Mayawati govt

Lucknow, Oct 16 (PTI) The Congress today said it will launch a two-phase statewide stir to highlight the "anti-development and destructive policies" of the Mayawati government, a day after the BSP chief targeted UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
"We have decided to launch a week-long agitation against the anti-development and destructive policies of the state government.

"We will hold street meetings in all vidhan sabha constituencies between October 19-24 besides holding agitations at district headquarters and sending memorandums to Governor through district magistrates concerned. The second phase of the protests will start from first week of November," Uttar Pradesh Congress state president Reeta Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here.

Joshi said the agitation would be aimed at highlighting the state government`s anti-development policies.

The second phase of the agitation will be held in the first week of November in which the party would target the secretariat in the state capital to hold demonstrations, she said "We are deliberating on the shape of the programme and its date will be announced on October 24 itself," Joshi added.

The UPCC president asserted that Mayawati`s remarks against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were "derogatory" and "condemnable".

"Mayawati has attacked a person who has set an example in the country`s politics. A person who turned down the Prime Minister`s post. To the contrary Mayawati has no ideology and dignity. She is an opportunist," she said alleging that party workers and leaders were being framed in fake cases. PTI

Of course - a business can be run honestly. I`ve been doing it since 1995. It is the best way to build a client base.

Even though truth hurts the person on the other side - It is appreciated deeply by those involved.

Lies, especially in business leads to dis trust and eventual loss of a good client.

Being street smart is not at all a dis advantage in business - instead it is admired by one and all.

I am my own boss ever since I quit my last job in 1994. I like it this way and would not give up my freedom even if I am offered a job which pays more than my business.

An example - If you make one lakh a month in your business and are offered a job that pays 1.5 lakhs - would one give up the freedom?
The answer depends on the individual - his need for the money weighs in with his need for the freedom. I would opt for freedom any day.

I would be thinking if the job pays 10 lakhs a month - but then, with the way the economy is heading, I doubt if there would be many such offers ;)...

NO BOSSES FOR ME... i wont take bossing around... but yes to be very high profile is great feeling... even if we can run a good busines to perfection its so satisfying.... so long as money keeps rolling in and u can get rich richer and richest its a great feeling... another thing is i cannot cheat anyone so i might fail in business so street smart may not come naturally to me... Can a business ever be run honestly?

Radigs - Its not the gender

There are a few who are very smart in class - They are their teacher`s pets - so much so - if that person misses school or college for a day - the teachers miss him/her.

And then, there are people like me - Always ranked top of the class - but from the bottom - Teachers were happy when I had to miss school/college for what ever reason. I & my best friend were nick named - dumb (my friend) and dumber (me).

Today, we provide employment to a few of our teachers who were asked to retire as they could not cope up with the more aggressive management of current years.

Me and my friend are referred to as dumb and dumber - even today - but the same group of teachers have acknowledged that dumb and dumber - were in the class - when they went out into the real world - they were "street smart"

Its never too late radigs - u can change even now :)

Once a hapless person loses his/her job, he is left to fend for himself/herself by evaluating possible avenues big or small. If nature dispels further fear of being wiped out in 8-10 years by inflicting a grievous aggression capable of disturbing peace, one is as pitiable as a cow not able to find a shelter in a storm. regards.

Dear MMB Moderators,

No question of losing job.
yes, Margins are under pressure.
What we accept new work, with just
5-7 % rate hike. earlier it was not
less than 25 % rate hike.

Still we managed the things.
We, in turn, restricted some of
the expenses, allowances, bonus etc.
Taking 20 % more work from each one
and tracking each employee.

Earlier Off shore- on shore ratio was
40-60 now 20-80.Every one shall learn
to find the way out.

I don`t think any sort of recession in our
IT sector. Yes, Big shots may have problems.
Tcs, Infosys may have some Retrachments....
We do not have. still we need Freshers with
25K pm at Pune...BE-IT , EC,having good grip
over Unix, Oracle, java, C#.
at least we do not see any migration for next
5 years.Growth pace is little bit slow this year.
But will manage by few more extended services.
