Athlete`s foot :

Athlete`s foot is a fungal infection of the foot, and is called so as it is commonly seen in the feet of athletes. There is a red, scaly, cracked rash between the toes along with an unpleasant odour. The rash itches, burns and scratching makes it raw and weepy. It is common in adolescents. The fungus grows well on warm, damp skin. The sweating due to exercise leads to ideal conditions for the growth of fungus in the skin folds of the toes encased in shoes.

What is the treatment?
An anti-fungal cream prescribed by the doctor should be applied twice daily for three to four weeks. The treatment should be continued at least a week after the disappearance of the rash. With proper treatment, it takes around 3 weeks for a cure. The feet must be kept dry. Wearing open sandals or chappals helps keeping the skin dry. Cotton socks help by absorbing the sweat and must be changed frequently. Avoid scratching as it only serves to delay healing. Washing feet in warm water with vinegar is an old home-remedy.

In this era of an increasingly enlightened public about the health benefits of nutritional supplements, there is a new area perhaps more overlooked than any other. This central area of health and nutrition is the ingestion of dietary nucleic acid bases – the essential building blocks of DNA and RNA.

The main reason these highly important nutrients have been neglected is that the body is able to manufacture nucleic acid bases from amino acids and other basic nutrients. In general, if the body can make a substance from other nutrients that substance has not been considered essential.

However, under certain conditions, the body is not able to make enough DNA and RNA bases to support the needs of the body’ tissues and organs, with a drastic reduction in the potential for health.
Numerous studies in animals and humans show dramatic benefits in health, function, and survival with the supplementation of nucleic acid elements. These effects are so powerful that survival in life threatening assaults ranging from radiation to infection to shock has been markedly increased. From the standpoint of longevity studies, no single method has increased longevity more than supplementing DNA and RNA elements.

For the first time ever, the powerful life and longevity enhancing effects of nucleic acids have been combined with the potent CELLFOOD technology. CELLFOOD offers a synergistic enhancement of the desirable properties of the DNA and RNA bases through improved absorption, enzyme support, and providing trace elements vital to the optimum function of metabolic pathways in the cells and tissues.

CELLFOOD DNA/RNA is thus one of the most rejuvenating, immune enhancing, and tissue supporting formulas ever to be released.

Recuperation after illness :

The body has an amazing ability to recuperate after illness, trauma, surgery or even prolonged periods of stress. But it is after illness we are at our weakest and much greater care needs to be taken with health. Age is a contributing factor in how long the body takes to recover. As we age the body’s ability to repair lessens, the immune system takes longer to respond, nutritional absorption is impaired and recovery is slower.

Steps to a quicker recovery :
Keep a positive mental attitude. While recuperating a good mental attitude cannot be underestimated. It will ensure you follow medical advice, keep up with exercise required, and helps the body to heal. There are many studies which have found the benefits of humour and laughter in recovery, as well as believing in a positive outcome and having support from family and friends. Keeping “spirits up” is very important.
Follow a healthy lifestyle, including exercise and sleep habits. After long periods of convalescence or inactivity, it is important to rebuild muscle tone and increase circulation and blood flow. Sleep is also an essential part of the body’s repair process. Fresh air and sunlight not only help the body produce much needed Vitamin D, but also assist in a positive mental attitude. Try to spend some time outdoors.

The kind of audience he has i bet Deepak chopra the one time wonder has never seen. One should have the desi touch to draw audiences not sit in US and advice sophistication. LOL...

Subasu,

I take a spoon of flax seeds everyday... it aids in the production of HAPPY HORMONE (seratonin) in the brain!! Its difficult to chew flax seeds, they go straight down ur gullet.. best is to buy flax meal (the powdered form and sprinkle it on your sandwhiches or put it in water and gulp it down)

Yes it fights cancers and prevents cancer.

There are two specialized sciences in Ayurveda Svarodaya and Marma

Svarodaya dealing which details the proper functioning of the nadis (ethereal nerves) and their use in diagnosis and treatment.

Today only a few ayurvedic practitioners have been exposed to svarodaya and while many learn the doctrine of marma while in college, few make use of it in practice.

A marma is a point on the body beneath which vital structures, which may be physical, subtle or both intersect. Some of these points are identical with acupuncture points, and others are nearly identical. Damage to marmas by trauma from without or by metabolic imbalances within has severe and potentially fatal consequences.

Marmas apparently have been known since Vedic times. Warriors targeted marmas on their enemies to inflict maximum damage, and surgeons employed the knowledge of marmas in their treatment of such injuries.

Sushruta classified 107 marmas on the basis of the structures involved (muscles, bones, blood vessels, ligaments, nerves, joints) and regional location, dimension and consequences of injury (swift death, death after some delay, death as soon as any foreign body is extracted from the wound, disability or simply pain)

Though the practical application of the knowledge of body marmas has disappeared from most of India, it persists in the southern state of Kerala among the practitioners of the martial art know as Kalarippayattu.

In its current form, dating from approximately the 12th century A.D., Kalarippayattu is, in the words of Prefoessor Phillip Zarrilli, similar to the practice of Hatha yoga in that a set of preliminary physical exercises leads not only to extraordinary physical control, but ultimately is thought to lead to inward to discovery of more subtle aspects of the practice.

Damage to arteries due to High B.P.
........................................

Healthy arteries are flexible, strong and elastic. Their inner lining is smooth so that blood flows freely, supplying vital organs and tissues with adequate nutrients and oxygen. If you have high blood pressure, the increased pressure of blood flowing through your arteries gradually can cause a variety of problems, including:

Arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis. The excessive pressure in your arteries from high blood pressure alters the cells of the arteries` inner lining. That launches a cascade of events that make artery walls thick and stiff, a disease called arteriosclerosis (ahr-teer-e-o-skluh-RO-sis), or hardening of the arteries. Circulating fats pass through the altered cells and accumulate to start the process of atherosclerosis. These changes can affect arteries throughout your body, obstructing blood flow to your heart, kidneys, brain and extremities. The damage can cause chest pain (angina), heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, peripheral arterial disease and aneurysms.
Aneurysm. Over time, the constant pressure of blood coursing through a weakened artery can cause a section of its wall to enlarge and form a bulge (aneurysm). An aneurysm (AN-u-rizm) can rupture and cause life-threatening internal bleeding. Aneurysms can form in any artery throughout your body, but they`re most common in the aorta, your body`s largest artery.

With list of health benefits as long as Gretzky`s scoring record, it is no wonder scientists are nuts for flaxseed! Here`s why you need flaxseed in your diet. It`s one of the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that your body can`t manufacture -- you can get it only from food. Sadly, due to our poor eating habits and (even poorer) food manufacturing processes, North Americans` diet are dreadfully deficient in them. But omega-3 fatty acids keep our brains healthy (even easing depression), they fire up our immune systems to prevent illnesses like cancer, ease inflammation and arthritis, and help control diabetes. They`re also heart-friendly and cholesterol-lowering. They make our skin glow and help relieve constipation. Heck, they even help us shed pounds.

Milled or ground flaxseed, full of cancer-fighting lignans and a great source of fibre, tastes great sprinkled on cereal or used in baking. Flaxseed oil is very sensitive to heat and oxygen, so make sure it`s refrigerated -- even when you buy it -- and don`t every cook with it (that makes the oil rancid). You can add a tablespoon of flaxseed oil to juice, smoothies, oatmeal, sauces or yogourt, or use it to make salad dressing. There you have it. The facts on flax!

(Particularly, when stock markets all over the world are falling every day, you may need some good quantities.)

Bone Fracture
-------------

A fracture is a break or crack in a bone. Anyone can fracture a bone. Those with low bone density (osteoporosis), bone tumors, certain cancers, or a brittle bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta are at higher risk for bone fractures. Children and adults who are extremely active and participate in contact sports are also more likely to experience bone fractures. After middle age, women are more likely than men to suffer bone fractures because of diseases that affect bone strength. A fracture is most often caused by some type of trauma to a bone. This trauma might occur as a result of a fall, physical abuse, motor vehicle accident, or disease. In general, a bone fracture results in pain, swelling, and, sometimes, bruising from internal bleeding. The patient cannot bear weight or pressure on the injured area, and may be unable to move it without severe pain. The soft tissues around the broken bone may also be injured. The area around or below the fracture may feel numb or paralyzed due to a loss of pulse in that area. These include a closed or simple, fracture, in which the skin around the fractured bone is not broken. An open, or compound, fracture, does include a break in the skin, revealing the bone and making the wound more susceptible to infection. A fracture is called complete if the break is the whole way through the bone, and incomplete (or greenstick) if the break is partial. Greenstick fractures are more commonly seen in children. Stress fractures are small cracks in a bone that occur over time as a result of repeated activities that put stress on the bone. A bone fracture is diagnosed by a physical examination and x-rays of the injured area. However, some types of fractures are difficult to see on an x-ray. In this case, your doctor may order other diagnostic imaging tests, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or bone scans. The affected area should be immobilized to prevent any further damage. Minor fractures can be treated in the office of an orthopedic specialist. Orthopedics is the branch of medicine that deals with the treatment of injuries to or disorders of the skeletal system. Most fractures are immobilized with a cast, brace, splint, or sling.

Stress fractures often require no more than rest, ice packs, anti-inflammatory medicines, and temporarily discontinuing the activity that has caused the injury. If a fracture results in the bone being misaligned, the doctor must realign the bone through a procedure called fracture reduction. This may be done manually and/or through traction, which holds the bone in place for period of time using weights and pulleys. Surgery may be necessary when a fracture is open, severe, or has resulted in severe injury to the surrounding tissues. Severe fractures may require internal devices, such as screws, rods, or plates, to hold the bone in place or replace lost bone during the healing process. Bone grafts, where healthy bone is taken from another area of the body to fill in the fracture, may also be used.
