Nuke power is not cheap but can be a faster way of achieving energy sufficiency. As time passes nuclear waste will become a huge liability and can pose huge risk to people given our handling of things.
Nuke power should only be used to complement current energy deficiency for short term and focus more wind and hydal power for long term.
Nuke deal will only help US to counter recession but the euphoria in India will die down after 1000 point rally if no negative news is in store.

Well I don\\`t know how to go in deep detail numbers but I m sure our prime minister knows whats better for the country...... If I am not not mistaken it was him as finance minister who opened the duties on gold when it was trading close to 300 usd...... n look where we are today.... I m sure he can think.... look we are importing problems anyways.....we are pumping enough carbon in air which will cause health problems ..... n cost of that alone may exceed this nuke waste... so a price has to b paid one way or the other...... its better to have a healthy nation than a sick one........+ what we achieve today ( wavier )will stay with us for ever we can always change our mind depending on nuke power........ for now I think its a good deal..............

hi pkjatts,
It is not going to be good for economy neither in the long term nor in the interim period.
At a cost of Rs.15/- plus levels per one kwh, if 15000 MW of power generation is achieved in the next 15 years or so.. it will be 20 times bigger than an Enron. All dsitribution companies and transmission companies in India will bankrupt.
US is planning to spend 90 billion $ for the proposed dump to keep nuclear waste. Can India ever think of such huge expenses when 76 crore Indians are having an income lesser than 2$ per day?

Cheng Jingye, head of the Chinese delegation told meeting that NSG to "equally address the aspirations of all parties for the peaceful use of nuclear power while adhering to the nuclear non-proliferation mechanism".
He did not clarify what he meant by "all parties", but it is likely that Beijing will lobby for concessions to be given to other nuclear trade aspirants like Pakistan on the ground that India has been given the advantage of buying nuclear material and technology from all over the world, sources said.
Unfortunatley some ppl in INDIA dont want this(NDEAL) to happen to INDIA.....

A father committed suicide when he was not sure of his sons' employment at Singur plant, media reports.
But the same media when farmers from the villages, Bolapalli and Mudhreddipalli in AP committed suicides as the SEZ for pharmaceutical industry took away around 1000 acres and made the farmers to work for daily wage in the SEZ.
But even when the employment was not sure and were laid off, people who were landowners earlier and now with nothing in their hand committed suicide.
Singur farmers also will face such a situation in future and the medial will not come to their rescue.
Poor one sided media!

An apparent off-the-cuff remark by actress Jaya Bachchan supporting the use of Hindi language by north Indians in Maharashtra has snowballed into a controversy with the Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray-led MNS launching a scathing attack on Jaya Bachan who is an MP of Samajwadi party. While the Sena said "people of Maharashtra will not tolerate such language from Jaya Bachchan", MNS demanded an apology from her, saying she has insulted the Marathi people.
At the Drona film promo here last night, Jaya had said " hum UP ke log hain, hamein Hindi mein baat karni chahiye " (we are from Uttar Pradesh and should speak in Hindi).
"Can she dare utter such remarks in Assam, where people are killed for speaking in Hindi," a Sena leader said.
Sena spokesperson and Jaya Bachchan's colleague in Rajya Sabha Sanjay Raut said: "People of Maharashtra will not tolerate such language."
"The Bachchans have been living here for so many years and saying that they do not know the local language is an insult to Marathi people," MNS leader Yashwant Killedar said.

Hi Novice,
some points on your message
When we talk of Energy it is always as a basket
Some may be cheaper
Since energy has components like fossil fuel,Solar,Wind,Fusion
And NUC
About 15 years back Oil was $40/50
and now its 120/150 people till using it and in fact consumption has increased
Look at the example of water, would you have purchased the Mineral water
At Rs 12,20-25 years back?
The cost of desalination of water is high compared to natural sources of water, but we are installing now and countries like Saudi,Singapore are using it irrespective of cost
Why?--The need, when the need keeps increasing the cost consideration is relative
So is the NUC energy,Imagine the situation that Oil Reaching $300
At some point of time (i don't know when? 20 years!!!)
At that point NUc can be comparable or even cheaper than Fossil fuel
So we need to look at our Energy basket and come out cost, and not just look at individually,It is very important for a nation to spread the energy basket for security
Even if you look power cost generation cost of Hydro is cheaper than fossil fuel
So the point is how diversified we are now and that gives us protection and flexibility

Orissa has emerged as the country's number one state in terms of the total amount of investment committed, reports tell us! While the volume of envisaged projects in Orissa was Rs 5,99,181 crore, ahead of many developed provinces, including Maharashtra and Gujarat, the state also tops the list of places in terms of project implementation.
Orissa leads the states in project implementation as about Rs 3,08,589 crore investment was implemented in the state. But Orissa govt is allowing Posco to exploit our country's natural resources.Iron ore worth 10 lac crores will be having an invoice value of 28 lac crore after conversion but the tribal are going to be awarded only 73 crores for their rehabilitation.Besides, the environment will be affected by deforestation and no compensation can match such damage.
Also in the sterlite factory case for their launching aluminium factories , a market price was discussed for the deforestation going to happen due to the factory.what a shame where anything can be had for a market price?
One our country will become good for nothing after all natural resources are taken to foreign countries.
When we are becoming stooges of USA, we are not following them closely like their keeping their crude resources untouched are taking oil from Saudi and elsewhere! ...

Indian govt allowed futures trading in stocks from 2001 and now trying to make it available for every other commodity and even Foreign currency. There have been winners and losers in this highest stakes gambling. In the last 1-2 years few people won heavily and retail segment lost their entire amount and they remain in indebtedness while many committed suicides. Now India looks set to keep curbs on trading rice and wheat after extending a four-month ban on futures trading in soybean oil, rubber, potatoes and chickpeas to cool inflation. The halt to futures trading in the four commodities has been extended until the end of November, Futures trading in wheat and rice was stopped last year to keep food prices affordable in a country where inflation is at a 16-year high, while exports of rice, corn, wheat and cooking oils were also put on hold. As long as inflation remains a concern, it would be difficult for the government to remove the ban it is hoped. But the huge gains made by manipulators who have access to govt policy are not made public. When public limited companies are instructed to submit quarterly reports to the Stock Exchange and media, why huge gainers in stock markets are not reqeuest to do so?
Why the Stock Exchanges and SEBI hide them???...

I think its good to kick start India to short to medium term.....it will give us quick boost ..... but its not so good for long term......as you said it will bring problems of its own.......as you said disposing nuclear waste.....than when these reactors get old its not cheap to replace them......... From what I see happening in western world is that its turning to wind power big time........

Describing India's bid to gain the Nuclear Suppliers Group waiver as "another surrender", the Communist Party of India-Marxist on Sunday said its fight against the Indo-US nuclear deal was not over and it would work now to see a new government in power which would terminate the 123 Agreement.
"Our political battle is here and not in Vienna or Washington. Earlier we withdrew support on this issue and we are now fighting against this ruling coalition. The struggle to rescind or reverse this deal is agreement is not over. After the next elections, our goal will be to see that the new government take step to terminate the 123 Agreement.... We will work for this," CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters in New Delhi.
Karat said his party had told the Congress to take the people's mandate before going ahead with operationalising the deal, for which the UPA Government has "converted its voluntary moratorium on nuclear testing into a multi-lateral commitment".
India would not get any better terms from any other country supplying nuclear fuel or reactors as all of them would now align with the 123 Agreement, Karat said...
