Article on Reuters

A U.S. push to lift a global ban on nuclear trade with India stalled on Saturday when a revised proposal failed to win over nations because it did not bind India to refrain from more nuclear bomb tests.

Many members of the nuclear cartel, which seeks to prevent the spread of proliferation-prone nuclear fuel and technology, welcomed an Indian pledge rejecting any nuclear arms race and reaffirming a voluntary moratorium on tests...

According to the honourable Power Secretary, India cannot remain isolated on coal prices and domestic prices of the fuel must rise in line with global trend.

I would like to ask here one question, why can’t the coal prices in India remain where they are and why should they follow the global trend? National resources should be prices with respect to national interest. The more you make them expensive, the more you have to spend for utilizing them. If you want to make them follow global prices, then why only with coal, why not with iron, steel, crude oil, rice, sugar etc. Why so much affection with coal only. Policy should be same for all.

The Department of Telecommunications is ready with the release of
qualification norms for selecting the bidder to operate mobile number
portability database.

It will be interesting to see how the portability works and who will be the major beneficiary of this in the telecom companies. New entrants will be at a major advantage with the virtual network model and also now by this portability operator model. Very interesting landscape is getting developed in this sector. I think we are going to see a major consolidation in the next 3 years in telecom sector as there are too much players in the sector which is impossible to sustain in the longer term.

Coal India resorts to imports; to buy 4 million ton coal in 1 year. Coal ministry identifies 75 coal, 20 lignite block for captive use. For the first time in its history, state-owned Coal India Ltd. Will import coal to cater to the growing needs of customers, mainly from the power industry.

I would think that coal advanced contracts happen at a normal rate, other than the exorbitant rates being fixed upon in international markets which were simply beyond understanding.

Yaga Venugopal Reddy about monetary policy, hours after demitting office of

China joining a clutch of countries having strong reservations.

Two days of marathon talks remained inconclusive and fresh discussions will happen later today.
