Dear jdosvd,
You echo my views... GAIL should not be available at these levels, but when it is, its an opportunity for us to build a long term money minting system.
Below Rs 200 GAIL is very attractive...
My suggestion to the investors would be to think long term now... forget about the shares bought till March 2010... its only beyond 2010 when a lot of clarity would evolve and that would be the time to sit back and relax.. enjoy the dividends...
Regards,
Sourav
PS: My buy order of 198.60 got executed :-)) but do not worry... the markets are not hurrying any where... we have more than 15 months to evaluate and pick the best..

Building a Portfolio of Blue Chips

I am not so pessimistic. However, a newcomer has the luxury of coming in with no preconceived notions. Prepare to be a serious investor by spending the next few months reading books by great investors/writers such as Peter Lynch, Benjamin Graham, Philip Fisher, David Dreman, Jack Schwager, Edwin Lefevre, Jim Rogers , Nassim Taleb etc. Dont write the books like one reads a novel. Read a few pages at a time and chew on them. However, nothing prepares you for the market better than your first big loss!! The market can be more mysterious than a lady. Happy investing....

Dear siddharth_raja,
Though I am not obliged to reply to your message but still I would want to convey my deepest regrets on not replying to your earlier. I`m sorry for the delay.
All the three stocks you have identified are good, but if you would heed to my suggestion, I`d say that its better to keep out of the market atleast till the next 12-15 months... you being a beginner I would want to be extremely careful with you...
Regards,
Sourav

I want to build a portfolio of 10 -12 scrips (one from each sector) having the following parameters:
PE: less than 10
2008 Q2 Net Profit Growth: more than 10%
I have identified three scrips:
GAIL:
PE:
Q2 Growth: 14%
Bank of India:
PE: 5.5
Q2 Growth: 35%
IVRCL:
PE: 7.80
Q2 Growth: 29%
I want to steer clear of high PE stocks because the upside potential is capped while the downside potential is open.
Low PE with high Q-Q growth is a sure-fire recipe for success, I think.
Need help with this strategy and suggestions of candidates.

Sourav,
I exited all my stock positions at 14000 levels and sit on cash 100%. Started buying around 10000. In addition to that I allocated some fund for investment everymonth, considering all this my cash position is 150% of my current portfolio.
Yes, this bearish trend will continue for six more months followed by consolidation phase of 12 months(I expect so). So am planning to face this also.

Lakshmanan...

Dear Laksh_1979,
Your strategy is good, but for how long will you continue buying? The markets are not going anywhere till March 2010..
Moreover the dividend paid by GAIL last time was 100% on a share of fv Rs 10.

Sourav

I came to know about this stock couple of days back, trading at P/E of less than 5, Book value around 170 and expected annual growth rate of around 20%, with divident yield of 5%. This is really an excellent stock to have it in one`s portfolio.
I started buying it around 227.25 and on every five rupees fall I added five more stocks. Now I have 25 GAIL stocks with an average price of 212.
The 52 week low is 165. I am not sure whether it will form a new low or not. But, it is definitely very good stock to keep it in portfolio.
