Cairn and ONGC confirm ‘exploratory’ talk
Posted by :

There are reports which suggest that Eni SpA of Italy is in talks with Cairn Energy PLC for a possible takeover. With respect to Exploration and Production (E&P) acquisitions, it is a wrong time as crude is at USD 135 per barrel and firm crude prices make it difficult to acquire oil and gas assets. Talks normally fail in a situation where underlying prices are in an up-cycle.

I think ENI of Italy was trying to take over CAIRN INDIA. But comp said we are not on sale.
What do you think the price will be after the fall in Crude prices?

Cairn and ONGC confirm ‘exploratory’ talks over bid.
BOTH Cairn Energy and potential suitor for the business India’s state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Company have stated that talks have taken place about a possible bid being made for the Edinburgh-based group.
But both parties have stressed that the talks are no more than exploratory at this time.
Following weekend reports that a bid in the region of £500 million was to be made for Cairn’s production assets on the Indian sub-continent, one unnamed company official confirmed that talks had taken place.
And a counterpart at ONGC said talks had been going on for the past three weeks.
He added: "Cairn has made many discoveries in India and they have a good gas field in Bangladesh which can be fully exploited.
"We are primarily interested in its Indian fields but if the Bangladeshi asset comes up as a package, it is fine."
Subir Raha, the chairman and managing director of ONGC, added that the company was open to any opportunities on and around the sub-continent.
Cairn has declined to make any official comment on any possible bid coming for the group, one of Britain’s largest independent energy exploration firms, other than to say it talks "to lots of people all of the time".
But finance director Kevin Hart said the firm was committed to India and added that Cairn was "actively appraising" bidding in the next round of exploration licences.

Oil licence for Cairn soon .
COLOMBO: The Government is to provide Cairn India Ltd the license to explore oil deposits in the Mannar basin in the northwestern sea belt of the island shortly.
The exploration license for the company has now been drafted and sent to the Attorney General's Department for review, Petroleum Resources Development Secretariat Director General Neil de Silva told the Daily News.
The Indian company which took part in the bidding process for Block 1 of the Mannar basin was awarded the tender in June, following which an exploration agreement was signed between the Government and the company.
"Once the draft receives the green light of the Attorney General, Cairns India will be granted the license to commence exploration work on the block assigned to them," he said.
Block No 1 in the Mannar basin earmarked for oil exploration spreads over 3,000 square kilometres.
Cairns India is expected to invest over US$ 10 million on exploring oil resources in the block

270 is a unlikely level..as this stock has perfect correlation to crude.. a rally to 270 meansover a 20% rally which means crude shud be at 130 levels for this to rally.. to those levels. whhich is not only highly unlikely but IMPOSSIBLE..but yes this week shud be in 250 range..shud not cross 260..see it bottoming out at 255......

243 is a veryyy high level to buy this stock.. not a buy over 230 - 235..243 is more on the upisde.. though it has seen 256 on a day not too long bak...wait for this stock to hit 220...which should be soon... its purely crude play so take ur calll.. crude today is 106..and shud be in this range...but its headed to go below 100 soon....purely ur call.. but yes good stock from investment prespective..as and when crude rallies see this go up..
