Rupee is expected to weaken on Monday, following a rise in oil prices and lower Asian stock markets.
* Oil, was trading above $116 a barrel, as a quarter of U.S. crude production was shuttered because of Hurricane Gustav, while Asian stocks were stung by the technology sector, which anticipated slower global demand.
* Domestic refiners are the biggest buyers of dollars and a rise in prices could push up the demand for dollars. India imports about 70 percent of its oil.
* The Nikkei was down 1.4 percent, while Seoul shares fell 3 percent and the Hang Seng index was down 1.7 percent.
* Outflows from Indian stocks of more than $7 billion so far in 2008 have helped weaken the rupee by more than 10 percent.
* The partially convertible rupee ended at 43.935/945 per dollar on Friday, 0.35 percent weaker than its previous close of 43.78/79. It had hit a 17-month low of 44.26 earlier in the week. -IE

Manaksia posted an increase of 48.79% in its PAT for the first quarter of the 2009 fiscal, which stands at Rs. 43.33 crore as compared to Rs. 29.12 crore in the last fiscal. The Net income for the period stands at Rs. 400.38 crore, a hop of 56.09% as compared to Rs. 256.50 crores in the last fiscal.

K K Birla, noted industrialist and former Rajya Sabha member, died on Saturday morning at his residence in Kolkata after a brief illness. He was 90.
Birla was ailing for the last two weeks and the end came at 7.30 am, family members said. His wife Manorama Devi Birla died about a month ago.
Son of Ghanshyam Das Birla, Krishna Kumar Birla was born in Pilani, Rajasthan, on October 12, 1918.
He was amongst the founder members of the Indian sugar industry, which he joined in 1940. Birla had established one of India's biggest business conglomerates and his industrial empire spans key industries like sugar, fertilizers, chemicals, heavy engineering, textiles, shipping, newspaper etc.
He was a respected parliamentarian, socialite, philanthropist and scholar apart from being an industrialist.
