Valuation of stocks on PE has no relevance in a bear market. Investors started believing we are in a bear market only since a month. Sellers in Colgate have so far not outnumbered the buyers, and so it has not fallen much. The continued bear phase will increase the sellers of colgate in the market in the days to come, and the share price will start sliding down....

Kadiyali - on what basis are you forecasting that bluechip stock like colgate will fall below 300? it seems that you are valuing only on the basis of PE Ratio but you cannot value stock like colgate only on PE basis.

I agree with U, worst, on a bad day, it can fall to 369
and not less. Traders dont touch colgate.

Dear nirmalbarbil, yes, Colgate will fall below 250 during this bear market. Four months back, people said US economy falling into recession is a possibility. Two months back, they said US economy falling into recession is a certainty. Now they say it is reality! Yes, US economy is in recession. UK is in recession. Japan is in recession. It is a time of `global recession`. India too has started feeling ripple effects of global recession.
Slump in demand has brought down crude oil to below $50. Metals have crashed. Commodities prices are south bound. All because people will have less & less money to spend going forward. Even gold price will drop to 50% of its peak in the days to come!
When gold, diamond & platinum prices are bound to drop, what is Colgate, the "blue chip diamond" in front of them? When colgate drops below 250, BUY & ENJOY! Thanks....

Existing shareholders of Colgare, if they venture to sell at current level, can make a decent profit by buying back leisurely at lower levels. If & when the price falls below 300, new buyers at around 250 should never sell this "blue chip diamond" for a long long time.

Colgate Palmolive (India) Ltd has informed the Exchange that: "We have today (November 20, 2008) announced the sale of our shareholding in the wholly owned subsidiary, Colgate Pamolive (Nepal) Pvt. Ltd to Everest Hygiene Products Pvt Ltd. Nepal, as a going concern. Concurrent with the sale, we have signed a contract manufacturing agreement to continue to source toothpowder from the factory in Hetauda, Nepal, thus providing for continuity of operations at the Plant and exports from Nepal. All employees of Colgate- Pamolive(Nepal) Pvt Ltd. will continue their employment on the existing terms and conditions under the new ownership."...

I am really not the right person to advise on investing for long term. I am just a F&O trader and my views are always short to mediem term. I give my "long term investible funds" to mutual funds to manage where I am happy if I get market returns....
