RBI warns against fictitious mails offering money. Seems so many indians are getting fooled that it would have made RBI frustated seeing that money is donated so easily to these people on internet who give greed of lottery, sudden prize and then ask to deposit a token money for that.

I have full sympathy with the RBI governor for this. ...

we are in real tough ride tomorrow, NIFTY might not be able to hold this time, sad that looking at the bullishness in the last half an hour I bought one 4500 CE, any way I have other positions which can give back the money...

what about you?

see how strong markets are... just add some aproximate data say 60 points less to the nifty and check technicals like i did and u will know if nifty is bullish or bearish and if good news can push it up faster or bad news can push it down faster, then u can price ur sale of puts and calls accordingly...

Dear RN,

I am trying to read and interpret your excel. But I am facing some difficulties regarding updation etc. Could it be possible fo you to post a note on how to effectively use and updaye your excel on your blog. I understand it would take some time but you can do it over the weekend. It would be of great help.

I am new to market and am trying to learn technicals. Request you to explain in simple terms on how to read and update Excel. Also for ease, you can give short notes on interpretation of MACD, ADX, TRIN.

I am asking for too much of your time and would understand if you are unable to heed to my request.

Best regards...

we will get the money on the next payout, But there will money blocked as a margin, example I have sold 4700 PE at 290, but they have blocked 45 K for that, yes the cash will increase in your account,

when you buy the option you need to pay in cash.

Oldtimer,

When we sell options and futures in ICICIDIRECT do we get instant credit for the sold value or we have to wait like when we sell scrips?

04 Sep 2008 14:21

Instant as in EOD; or when MTM is run.

We do not get instant credit - the usual pay-in pay-out dates count.

In Gambling:

There is only way to win is beleive in probality.

In trading:

There are so many tools to come out as winner.

In both Luck is needed,
In both money is rotated between the Winner and loser,
In both Loser beleive they can make it next time,
In both cases winner will think they can make it even bigger.

I once asked a wise old boarder whether trading is akin to gambling or not from the ethical point of view. True to his name, Solomon gave me an answer that satisfied me; he said that traders give the market the much needed liquidity to the markets. They also help in the price discovery of a given stock. Without them (the traders) the volumes traded would be very poor and the price realised for a given stock may be at a large variance from the real value of the stock.

Ethical / moral considerations apart, there are differences between betting and trading from the operational point of view also.

Factors determining outcome:
A person placing a bet usually does not have to worry about factors other than the probability of an event happening, which one assumes to be random. The trader has to look at various factors that affect price. The situation is further complicated as these factors keep changing the values, during the period a trader holds a position.

Dealing with emotions:
While betting the person betting does not have to contend with the emotions of fear and greed on a continuous basis, the trader has to deal with them until the position is exited.
For the gambler, taking a position is a one time decision; once (s)he has taken a position, (s)he does not have to deal with these fears, as the result is now not in their hands - either they win or lose. But for a trader who has taken a position, the emotions fear and greed start operating only after the position is taken, which (s)he has to contend with continuously until the position is exited.

These are some thoughts that came up while I was contemplating the difference between gambling and betting. If any of you have other differences that you perceive I would be glad if you could share them.

Regards

OT
