Smart domestic investors see value in falling market: Bhave
New Delhi, Nov. 22 “If you think that Indian investors don’t have money or are running away from the market (capital market), think again”, said the SEBI Chairman, Mr C.B. Bhave, here on Saturday.
A broad brush analysis by SEBI based on the published data of the transactions put through between September 1 and November 14, when secondary markets were collapsing, revealed that retail and high net worth investors had net bought about 25 per cent of the value of stocks net sold by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and domestic brokers during this period.

Confused !!! Please advise !!!

Dear Sirs, I seek your sincere advise on a matter on which I am highly confused. It goes like this:
......I took a home loan of 5 lacs around 4 yrs back to purchase a flat @7.25% from HDFC
......As of now outstanding on that loan is around 4.75 lacs (@12.5%)
......I have around 5 lacs spare funds
......I have huge intrest in stock market and keep tracking it.
......Now I have 3 options in mind to deploy this fund of 5 lacs on which I am confused:
1. Go to HDFC bank and straight away pre-pay the full outstanding amt of 4.75 lacs and become debt free ( but here the dream of investing in market at these mouth watering levels is shattered )
2. Invest this amount in stock market as few people say this is a once in life time opportunity to invest ( or will come in few months )
3. Give this amount on intrest @12-15% p.a. ( I have good reliable person who can borrow this amt from me )
About me: Married and 2 have kids ( 4 and 3 yrs ). Wife is house wife.
I am salaried in IT sector with salary around 4.5 lacs p.a
No other liabilities, leading a happy contended life.
Now based on the above information please suggest how should I deploy these 5 lac rupees wisely. I am long time visitor of this board and I know a lot of intellectual and kind persons like you are there on this board who wihtout any self intrest take out time for their fellow boarders to give them the best piece of advise.
Thanking you all in anticipation.
Warm Regards

Dear HLN,
Good to see you.
Selling calls and writing calls is the same. It amounts to (in my opinion), selling the underlying at the strike price. So it provides a way to sell suzlon e.g. at 63 when the underlying is at 49. A great toool, if used judiciously.
As for what is more profitable, i can`t say.... Covered call should be better in the long run... It reduces the risks... But in the very short term, naked is obviously more profitable IF ones view of the market direction turns out to be right.
Regrads

DEAR rajtibs,
What is the difference between :
SELLING CALLS and WRITING CALLS
Is it the same thing, if not what is the difference ?
Do you think writing Covered calls or Naked calls is more
profitable ? I want to share your expertise with you as
there is hardly any literature available on Selling calls.
Will appreciate your precise answer.
Thanks

Nifty may sustain above 2,850 level
The major support mentioned last week for the Nifty was 2,500, where one could have expected the index to make a temporary bottom. Indeed, the index seems to have taken temporary support at the 2,500-level following a strong surge in trading in the last one hour on Friday.
Following three days of losses in the preceding week, the Nifty declined for four more days, making it a seven-day losing streak wherein the index hit a low of 2,503, before bouncing back sharply on Friday with a 140-point gain.
The index touched a high of 2,835 at the start of the week, but then shed 333 points at the low point of week, and finally settled with a loss of 117 points at 2,693. In the process, the index also registered its second straight weekly loss.
Trading activity is likely to be hectic this week also. Thankfully, the overseas cues have been positive, which should lead us to a good start. However, going forward, the derivatives expiry and hopes of some policy announcement from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will keep investors on their toes.
Technically, the index is likely to give a minimum 200 points, pullback from the current levels, i.e. we could move up to 2,885 levels, above which the index may surprise us with a rally right up to 3,200-mark. However for a sustained upmove, the index needs to trade firmly above the 2,850-mark. It may re-test the 2,500-mark and may even break it this time around.
The bollinger bands continue to get narrower — 2,450 to 3,190. The mid-term (50-day) daily moving average (DMA) at 3,411 continues to remain above the short-term (20-day) DMA at 2,824, which is a negative sign.
The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex moved in a range of more than 1,100-points. From a high of 9,436, the index slumped to a low of 8,316 and then finally settled with a loss of 470 points at 8,915. The index support of 8,550 mentioned last week was easily violated due to a gap down opening on Thursday.
After having gained a whopping 42 per cent (3,248 points) from its October low of 7,697, to a high of 10,945, the Sensex in the last two weeks has retraced 81 per cent of its gain as the index hit a low of 8,316. The probability of the index breaking below 8,300-mark remains high. While on the upside, the index needs to sustain above the 9,800-mark for more upside.

no you are not ignorant.. noone dies of hunger in punjab.. it is a relatively rich agricultural state.. sindhis are kanjoos, or so my daughter tells me.. shes been seeing a sindhi for 2 years now..
gujaratis are very hard working and kanjoos and manipulative... this i am saying with rgards to business.. not character..unlike a punjabi, who will try to show off more than he has.. which is why very few punjabis make it to the top.. all remain above in the comfortable zone, but dont have the foresight to get mega big..

Hi guys,
As I am new to F&O, I have bought 2 lots of Nifty Put 2600 at a price of Rs. 75 on Friday of 27th Nov`08. As markets picked up rally on Friday before close and also US markets rallied on Friday, I have a feeling that coming Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday might again see rallies higher and Nifty 2600 will go down from its current price of Rs. 52. As my funds are at risk with a total loss of almost 15K, could anyone advise my next move, what I should do? Whether I should sell of on Monday morning or wait until the expiry date and take risk?
Kindly advise!
Thanks....

we can`t rate all the msgs, but we can rate the root one and that too only for the msg that is so important for us.
however, this is an workaround and not a solution. MMB should restore the msgs.

Is that so? If bangaloreans came to chandigarh to set up business they would get up from underneath their blankets.. here they take off from work school etc if they see a little fog in the air... i came to know i have knees after the winters in bangalore.... lol lol.. its biting cold for us here and i am wearing a sweater for this cold.. u might laugh, but we bangaloreans cannot take heat or cold..we cannot work too hard and we cannot do without films or restaurants.... we may have to be rehabilitated shortly coz all opportunites for us here have been taken by other communiites. lol lol
btw if u took a drive thru bangalore it would be sight for sore eyes... lovely pink november flowers linign all raods.. no leaves whatsoever just pink flowers on all trees... its divine and stil i see folks driving blindly thru such an avenue... so what different does it make if manmohan singh converted our country to an english county or maintains the status of malgudi.. lol lol. these blind as bats thick skinned citizens have no eye for beauty and i am stunned by their attitude.... i just cannot comprehend such apathy for beauty. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hello HLN,
Requesting you once again to send me the ebook on Option trading at anilkhubchandani@yahoodotcom.
Also after seeing US markets surge 6%, is ur stand on Nifty falling to 2400 next week still maintained. I did not buy in today`s Nifty upmove as things did not feel right somehow. Also FII & DII figures do not show significant buying by either- Who did buy for the Indian index rise of 5.5 %. Please post ur guidance as always.
Thanks.
Anil
