I had a similar experience. I invested through ICICI bank in some mutual funds. then i invested online. I had the mutual funds in the paper format and i wanted to combine them to my Online account. The person at icici bank actually told me i can them online in my account as will be tied to my demat account but i think he did some goof up.. They said its is not possible to do that. I also contacted the mutual fund houses and got tired of running from pillar to pole to do the conversions. I finally redeemed all the ones i had in paper format. I must say this was 2 years ago.
