PowerGrid in Rs 7032 cr Sasan evacuation plan

NEW DELHI: Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd will invest Rs 7,032 crore over the next four years to establish transmission lines to supply power generated from the Sasan power plant to the electricity grid, the company said in an announcement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The government had awarded Reliance Power Ltd a contract to build an ultra mega power plant (UMPP) at Sasan in Maharashtra, with a capacity to generate 4,000 mw of electricity.
The transmission line will supply power to the states of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand, company’s director (finance) J Sridharan told DNA Money.
“Whatever transmission lines we are laying will co-terminate along with the commissioning of the generation capacity,” Sridharan said.
The Sasan UMPP is expected to start commercial operations by the end of 2012.
Power Grid Corp has a plan to invest Rs 55,000 crore in establishing transmission lines during the 11th Five Year Plan ending March 2012.
“We had invested Rs 6,615 crore in the first year of the Plan, and have a target to invest Rs 8,000 crore in the current fiscal year,” Sridharan said, adding that almost 30% of the current year’s target has been achieved.
Most of the transmission projects planned by the Power Grid Corp have been approved by the company’s board, apart from a few including the third UMPP at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
India currently has an installed capacity to generate 145,000 mw of power. It plans to add capacity to generate another 78,577 mw of electricity in the current 11th Five Year Plan ending March 2012, and further 84,000 mw in the 12th Five Year Plan ending March 2017.
Considering the huge power generation capacity addition targets, the government proposed building nine coal-fired ultra mega power plants, each with the power generation capacity of 4,000 mw or above.
Each of the UMPPs is expected to entail an investment of about Rs 15,000 crore, and the electricity generated from such plants will likely cost about Rs 2 per unit.
The government has so far awarded the contract to build three such UMPPs on the basis of competitive bidding, with contracts for Sasan project in Madhya Pradesh and Krishnapatnam plant in Andhra Pradesh given to the Reliance Power Ltd.
Investments of up to Rs 1,40,000 crore are envisaged to increase the inter-regional transmission capacity to 3,71,000 mw by March 2012 from 1,55,000 mw now in order to create capacities for evacuating the power generated.
The state sector investments are pegged at Rs 69,000 crore out of this.

Actually, the company is experiencing the effects of `global meltdown`. Some bad news may b in this counter, in near term. Even the `Hdfc Securities` has given a `sell` advice in this counter. One may re-enter at Rs 55-55 levels. Better strategy to avoid further money loss. Moneyexpert....

Hi Pravesh,
This is the most tough time for small investors. This company has a very good prospect but not in short term, but only in long terms. If U r watching this schip then you must have seen that it is trading in a range of 65-78 , 78-90. You can invest in this scrip around 60-65 as it doesn`t go below 52. If u need money then u can sell some of ur stock when market goes 15-25% Up and again buy it at lower levels when the market corrected. This is what i do and cut some of my losses.
But take ur decision at your own and not on saying of others.
Thanks. N Best of Luck.

Technical Analyst, Vijay Bhambwani is of the view that Power Grid has resistance at Rs 90-95. In 2-2.5 years the stock has the potential to kind of double or a rally even more from the current levels provided the market situation is significantly better from here of which there is a fair bit of probability it will be.
