CEO says MphasiS to hire 4,000 people in 2008, lower than target ........MphasiS Ltd has cut its hiring target for 2008 (Jan-Dec) to
4,000 from 6,000-8,000 people, Chief Executive Officer Jeya Kumar told
reporters here today.
\"Beginning of the year we were planning (to hire) closer to 6,000-8,000
(people). This year as things stands now, for remaining four months (Sep-Dec)
we will be hiring 2,000 people,\" Kumar said.
MphasiS has already hired 2,000 people this year.
The company officials said currently they had 28,000 people on rolls.
\"The hiring overall for the industry has slowed down. We tend to drive
more towards productivity and operational efficiency than hiring. Over the
last eight months we have driven up utilisation by 10 percentage points,\" he
said.
Hewlett-Packard, which acquired Electronics Data Systems, the majority
shareholder of MphasiS has announced that the firm intends to lay off 24,600
people worldwide over the next three years to cut costs.
Kumar, however, said MphasiS has no plans to hand over pink slips to its
existing employees. More...
