Clean?!!! The possibility of a Chernobyl or a disaster of a far bigger magnitude than the Bhopal Gas Tragedy is what it opens the doors to. Nuclear waste that would be produced cannot be disposed off at all.

It will also provide more targets for missile based attacks before it provides any "energy".

I think its good to kick start India to short to medium term.....it will give us quick boost ..... but its not so good for long term......as you said it will bring problems of its own.......as you said disposing nuclear waste.....than when these reactors get old its not cheap to replace them......... From what I see happening in western world is that its turning to wind power big time...........

What is without risk? Nothing!!!. If you say that hydropower is clean or risk free, then think what would happen if one of the big dams were targetted by the terrorists. The havoc would outdo any Chernobyl like disater or if it were to be damaged in an earthquake, not to mention the long term ecological damage brought about by dams. Like I said Nuclear fission is a medium term stop gap till we source other forms of energy which are truly clean & safe. We have no oil or gas to cater to our long term energy needs. The much taked about 'Carbon capture technology' for getting clean energy from coal is a pipe dream & will be confined to smaller projects. It envisages storing liquid CO2 in underground facilities. How feasible is that on a large scale. We have to traverse this path of nuclear adolosence on our long term goal to clean & safe energy....
