Repower Profit Jumps as Turbine Installations Double (Update1)

June 30 (Bloomberg) -- Repower Systems AG, a German wind turbine builder, said profit in the three months to March 31 surged as it installed more than twice as many turbines as in the same period last year.

Net income was 1.4 million euros ($2.2 million), compared with 15,000 euros in the first quarter of 2007, according to a statement the Hamburg-based company distributed by e-mail today. Revenue rose 20 percent to 150.2 million euros.

Repower installed 65 turbines with a total output of 129 megawatts in the period, compared with 32 turbines at 61 megawatts a year earlier. The company said forward order books should mean sales for the financial year through 2009 will gain to at least 1.1 billion euros, while earnings will rise because of higher efficiency in acquiring components.

``Market support is very strong,'' Chief Executive Officer Per Hornung Pedersen said on a conference call with reporters today. ``And the current situation with oil prices isn't going to be slowing down the market.''

Repower changed its reporting year to run from April to March, rather than the calendar year, after Suzlon Energy Ltd. of India acquired 66 percent of the company.
