annuji,
This question is quite genuine. Please understand that the lure of investing in market is there for all of us. Thats why we are on this web site.
Best way would be to repay the loan from HDFC. There is no guarantee from the market that you will get return of 12.5%. The present condition could go on for some years or even fall some. No one knows what is in future.
You can invest too. Start investing the monthly loan installment you pay, in SIP of good mutual funds.
The people who are giving you 12-15 % interest, please do not think of these. Anyone paying you such returns is not telling you something. High returns come with high risk. You do not know if this person will be in a position to return your money when you want it.
Leveraging has brought the US market to today`s condition. In personal investment it is best to follow policy of knowing what is your risk profile. Please go to any web site which can calculate your profile. Invest in debt / shares in the ration suiting you.

Goldchest,
This is real good advise. It is easier to invest in rising market but falling market, when it has fallen so much is the real opportunity. I agree this could be once in a lifetime chance to participate in the Indian story. More pain is likely.
I would prefer to wait a bit longer and start accumulating identified stocks after the yearly results start coming out. Management credibility would be an important factor.

Hi,
Real bottom is still away. There seems to be still some hope in market. Real bottom will come at the time when everyone gives up hope of a rise.
The annual results will be further trigger for a slide. Time to buy will come after lot more pain. It would not be correct to speculate on the level to which market can fall. No one knows this figure.
