Buses

Fuel cell buses (as opposed to hydrogen fueled buses) are being trialed by several manufacturers in different locations. The Fuel Cell Bus Club is a global fuel cell bus testing collaboration.

Hydrogen was first stored in roof mounted tanks, although models are now incorporating inboard tanks. Some double deck models uses between floor tanks.

Bicycles

Hydrogen bicyclePearl Hydrogen Power Sources of Shanghai, China, unveiled a hydrogen bicycle at the 9th China International Exhibition on Gas Technology, Equipment and Applications in 2007.

Motorcycles

ENV is developing electric motorcycles powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, including the Crosscage and Biplane.

Airplanes

Companies such as Boeing and Smartfish are pursuing hydrogen as fuel for airplanes. Unmanned hydrogen planes have been tested, and in February 2008 Boeing tested a manned flight of a small aircraft powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The Times reported that "Boeing said that hydrogen fuel cells were unlikely to power the engines of large passenger jets but could be used as backup or auxiliary power units onboard."

Rockets

Rockets employ hydrogen because hydrogen gives the highest exhaust velocity as well as giving a lower net weight of propellant than other fuels. It particularly shines on upper stages, although has been used on lower stages as well, although usually in conjunction with a dense fuel booster.

The main disadvantage of hydrogen in this application is the low density and deeply cryogenic nature, requiring insulation- this makes the hydrogen tanks relatively heavy, which greatly offsets much of the otherwise overwhelming advantages for this application.

Hydrogen vehicle

A hydrogen vehicle is a vehicle that uses hydrogen as its on-board fuel for motive power. The term may refer to a personal transportation vehicle, such as an automobile, or any other vehicle that uses hydrogen in a similar fashion, such as an aircraft. The power plants of such vehicles convert the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy (torque) in one of two methods: combustion, or electrochemical conversion in a fuel-cell:

In combustion, the hydrogen is burned in engines in fundamentally the same method as traditional gasoline (petrol) cars.
In fuel-cell conversion, the hydrogen is reacted with oxygen to produce water and electricity, the latter of which is used to power an electric traction motor.

Vehicles

Buses, trains, PHB bicycle, cargo bikes, golf carts, motorcycles, wheelchairs, ships, airplanes, submarines, high-speed cars, and rockets already can run on hydrogen, in various forms and sometimes at great expense. NASA uses hydrogen to launch Space Shuttles into space. There is even a working toy model car that runs on solar power, using a reversible fuel cell to store energy in the form of hydrogen and oxygen gas. It can then convert the fuel back into water to release the solar energy.

The current land speed record for a hydrogen powered vehicle is 333.38 km/h (207.2 mph) set by a prototype Ford Fusion Hydrogen 999 Fuel Cell Race Car at Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah on August 2007.

Automobiles

Many companies are currently researching the feasibility of building hydrogen cars and most of the automobile manufacturers have begun developing hydrogen cars, see list of fuel cell vehicles. Most of these vehicles are currently only available in demonstration models or in a lease construction in limited numbers and are not yet ready for general public use. The recorded number of hydrogen-powered public vehicles in the United States was 200 as of April 2007, mostly in California.[3] Funding has come from both private and government sources. TIME to Call Out the BIG Guns

No more bazookas. This time Hank and Ben need to roll out the tanks.

But the Treasury and Federal Reserve also need to target the right problem -- a lack of capital that has eroded confidence in the banking system.

To do that, the government needs to inject capital directly into banks. Consider that $700 billion, the size of the TARP program, is equal to only about 6% of U.S. commercial bank assets. That isn`t going to make a dent. That same $700 billion is equal to 58% of commercial bank equity.

Injecting capital alone isn`t enough. The government also needs to force banks to recognize losses they have so far ignored, require banks to provide fuller disclosure of holdings, push banks to lend to one another again, euthanize weaker banks while helping strong banks get stronger, guarantee deposits and backstop a portion of bank credit.

Above all, the government needs to tell banks that they have to take part in a systemic solution. The time for negotiation by banks is over.

Yet such a draconian approach should also include market-based solutions. The strong should be encouraged to use markets to get stronger, in some cases in conjunction with government support.

The Fed could do this by insisting on higher capital ratios, for example, and then give banks a brief period to get there on their own. If a bank can`t, it would have to accept government help.

Of course, the U.S. can`t do this alone. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke need to coordinate such actions with the G7 governments meeting this weekend. Some countries, such as the U.K. and Germany, are already taking some of these steps.

Granted, it will take time for any solution to work. And even if the financial system stabilizes, the world still faces recession.

That promises to be deep, because consumers and banks both need to cut their reliance on borrowed money. Assets at U.S. commercial banks have soared over the past decade and are now equal to about 79% of gross domestic product, their highest level in 20 years.

Yet any recession will be far worse, making credit losses even bigger, if the financial system isn`t righted. For that to happen, governments need to accept that the problem is more than a liquidity crisis.

It isn`t. Investors and banks have money. They are refusing to invest it because prices aren`t realistic, or they can`t adequately assess value because it is unclear which banks have enough capital.

Yet many banks still refuse to sell assets at market prices, because they have fooled themselves into thinking any losses won`t prove real. Banks have also failed in too many cases to adequately reflect losses on their books.

That has created a crisis of confidence. Investors can`t sort out who is solvent and who isn`t. So they head for the sidelines.

Autopsy results from banks already shaken out of the market have confirmed this as a rational response. No sooner had Citigroup and Wells Fargo started opening up Wachovia`s carcass than they found the banks` loan portfolio was even worse than expected. When J.P. Morgan Chase bought the assets of Washington Mutual, it had to write down loans by $31 billion.

That underlines the need for more capital. Until investors can say with confidence who will avoid the coroner`s slab, it doesn`t make sense to lend to any bank.

Recapitalization is needed. And the government needs to call the shots on this, whether banks like it or not.

HAVANA

Cuba is limiting how much basic fruits and vegetables people can buy at farmers` markets, irritating some customers but ensuring there`s enough -- barely -- to go around.

The lines are long and some foods are scarce, but because the government has maintained and even increased rations in some areas, Cubans who initially worried about getting enough to eat now seem confident they won`t go hungry despite the destruction of 30 percent of the island`s crops by hurricanes Gustav and Ike last month.

"Of the little there is, there is some for everyone," 65-year-old Mercedes Grimau said as queued up behind more than 50 people to buy lettuce, limited to two pounds per person.

"I`m not afraid that I will be left without food, but it`s a pain to think about all the work we are going to have to go through," Grimau added. "Two or three months ago the farmers markets were well-stocked."

Cuba`s government regularly stockpiles beans and other basics, and Economics Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez said authorities are ready to increase the $2 billion they already spend on food imports annually. The world credit crisis won`t affect much of those imports because U.S. law forces communist Cuba to use cash to purchase American farm goods. But imports from other countries bought with credit could become more difficult or expensive.

The government is delivering all items distributed each month on the universal ration that provides Cubans with up to two weeks of food -- including eggs, beans, rice and potatoes -- at very low cost. In some hard-hit provinces, extra food has been added.

But the rest of the food Cubans supplement their diets with at supply-and-demand farmers markets and government produce stands has dwindled, prompting the government to limit consumer purchases and cap prices on items including rice, beans, root crops and fresh greens.

Rodriguez has sought to dispel speculation about a replay of the desperate early 1990s, when shelves were bare and people survived for weeks on one small meal daily. Cubans who lived through deprivation after the Soviet Union`s collapse say the current food situation doesn`t come close.

"It is true that it will take us some time to bring the agricultural production up to the levels that existed before the hurricanes," Rodriguez told state television this week. "Nevertheless, there is no reason to speculate or assume that there will be any hunger."

Although Cuba`s relative financial isolation partially protects it from the jolts of the world economy, an extended credit crisis could stunt the island`s foreign currency income if Cubans living abroad lose jobs and stop sending family remittances, or if potential tourists can no longer afford to travel.

But now, Cuba`s top challenge is to increase local production of fruits and vegetables sold at the farmers` markets.

Waiting at one market on a recent morning, 55-year-old homemaker Regla Suazo said, "At least with the measures I know I can buy something." Shortly thereafter, the first truck of the day pulled up with green beans, green onions, guavas, avocados, corn, squash, cassava root and sweet potatoes.

But quantities were much smaller than usual. Vendor Nadia Gomez, who received nothing that day, said police checkpoints leading into Havana now turn away trucks unauthorized to market produce in the capital or have been ordered send their goods to harder-hit areas.

Cuban agricultural officials expect six months of food shortages, and are increasing short-cycle crops such as salad greens and taking other measures to ensure everyone gets enough to eat.

At Cuatro Caminos farmers market, among Havana`s largest and most varied, vendor Juan Carlos Martinez lamented he had only papayas, guavas and pineapples to sell. "This isn`t the business it used to be," he said.

SEVELEN, Switzerland

Tourists in Switzerland can soon sleep in the world`s first "zero-star hotel," a former nuclear bunker several yards below the ground.

A group of 15 guests inaugurated the hotel, sleeping the night from Thursday to Friday in the former bunker embellished with artistic decoration and real hotel duvets.

But that was only a trial run, and regular operation of the hotel will require approval of an operating budget by the town of Sevelen.

The hostelry in the northeastern region of St. Gallen, which is part of the town`s project to convert the hardly used nuclear bunker, is aimed at guests with a modest income.

"Using the weapon of art, we have created a low-budget hotel, which has charm, takes into account guests` individual wishes and thus becomes quite something," said twin brothers Frank and Patrik Riklin, artists commissioned by local authorities to convert an ancient neighboring factory into a culture center and integrate the bunker.

Organizers said the price per night will be between $9 and $13.

The shared bathroom has been converted into a fountain with swimming flowers, and a live-cam is sending images from the outside onto a large screen in the windowless building.

Town Mayor Roman Zogg said the nuclear bunker was empty most of the time, except on rare occasions when the army used it for training courses.

"The maintenance costs loads of money," he said.

Zogg said he was convinced the hotel, which could host cultural events and ski and hiking camps, has good chances of success.

In case of emergency, the hotel could be converted back into a nuclear bunker within 24 hours in line with a Swiss law that says all civil defense buildings have to be ready for use within one day.

The hotel can start commercial operations if the town`s population approves the $73,600 project credit in a meeting scheduled for Nov. 11.

Madam, On the lighter side, Sonia and her alliance will leave the market at the stage where they took over!...

Occultism and Sonia Gandhi

Posted by : radhika_nandlal

OCCULTISM AND SONIA GANDHI

The consequences of Sonia Gandhi becoming the "Eminence Grise", as
the French say, of India, that is the one who controls everything
from behind the scenes, are not only visible for all those who care
to look, but also occult, subtle, invisible, yet having far reaching
and maybe irreversible consequences. Occultism, in the ancient
sense, was the manipulation of forces which cannot be seen, but
which constantly clash in the world. In fact one could say that
politics is the art of controlling these forces, overtly and
covertly. At the top, great leaders create their own occultism:
their very presence generates certain atmospheres which make or
unmake revolutions.

At the outset, one should first say that the world is not Black &
White, Good and Evil, Superman versus the bad guys, as the Americans
would like us to believe. Hindu groups need not demonize Sonia. She
probably was a good wife to Rajiv, a good daughter in law to Indira -
and by all accounts, she is a good mother to her children, judging
by the way they dote on her. One also hears first-hand reports about
her concern for smaller people, her dignity in the suffering that
befell her when her husband was blown to pieces, and her courtesy
with visitors.

This said, what is happening in India at the moment, makes me
profoundly uneasy. I am a Westerner and a born Christian. Yet I find
it absurd that in a country of one billion people, one of the most
ancient civilizations of this world, Indians cannot find an Indian
to govern themselves. There are many good and talented people within
the Congress and one wonders what is this unconscious, occult urge,
which makes them look-up to someone, who however good-willing, is
alien - if not hostile - to their own culture.

Let`s first look at the visible, overt consequences of Sonia
Gandhi`s supreme leadership. There is of course the Iraqi oil-for-
food scam. I know Anil Maitrani well: he is a somehow likeable,
highly ambitious man, who got caught in his own web of intrigues.
Yet, it is an open secret that the go ahead for the Iraqi trip of
Natwar Singh, his son and his acolyte came directly from Sonia
through her trusted aides. There is also a strong speculation that
Sonia Gandhi controls today so much money through the various Gandhi
trusts, on top of slush funds nobody knows about, that there lies
her ultimate power. And what about Kashmir? Experts says that
Islamic militants do not need anymore to risk crossing from Pakistan
over dangerous mountain ranges and being shot at by Indian soldiers,
they only have to board the Muzaffarabad- Srinagar bus, or cross the
LOC under false identities and papers with the connivance of the
Pakistani Rangers ! Mr Musharraf has dazzled the West, who laid
everywhere a red carpet for him. Is the man who conceived Kargil
sincere ? Pervez is a clever magician: nobody in India has found
anything to say that he is actually holding talks with the Hurryat
leaders, who want Kashmir to separate from India - and most likely
go to Pakistan ! There is in India an obsession and a fear of
Pakistan, a small country who has lost the four wars it initiated
with India.

Let`s come to the covert, occult signs. I am a little uneasy when I
see how much Christianity is taking over India under the reign of
Sonia Gandhi : according to a 2001 census, there are about 2.34
million Christians in India ; not even 2,5% of the nation, a
negligible amount. Yet there are today five Christian chief
ministers in Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Kerala and Andhra
Pradesh. One should add that the majority of politicians in Sonia
Gandhi`s closed circle are either Christians or Muslims. She seems
to have no confidence in Hindus. Ambika Soni, a Christian, is
General Secretary of the Congress and a very powerful person, with
close access to Sonia Gandhi. Oscar Fernandes is Union Programme
Implementation Minister. Margaret Alwa is the eminence grise of
Maharasthra. Karnataka is virtually controlled by AK Anthony, whose
secretaries are all from the Southern Christian association. Valson
Thampu, a Hindu hater, is Chairman NCERT curriculum Review
Committee, John Dayal, another known Hindu baiter, has been named by
Sonia Gandhi in the National Integration Council ; and Kancha Ilaya,
who hates Hindus, is being allowed by the Indian Government to lobby
with the UN and US Congress so that caste discrimination in India is
taken-up by these bodies.

I share with Sonia a love for India, like her I have lived in this
country for over 30 years and like her I have married an Indian. But
nevertheless, since she is at the top, Christian conversions in
India seem to have gone in overdrive. More than 4,000 foreign
Christian missionaries are involved in conversion activities across
different states. In Tripura, there were no Christians at
independence, there are 120.000 today, a 90% increase since 1991.
The figures are even more striking in Arunachal Pradesh, where there
were only 1710 Christians in 1961, but 1,2 million today, as well as
780 churches! In Andhra Pradesh, churches are coming-up every day in
far flung villages and there was even an attempt to set-up one near
Tirupati. Many of the North-East separatist movements, such as the
Mizo or the Bodos, are not only Christian dominated, but also
sometimes function with the covert backing of the missionaries. In
Kerala, particularly in the poor coastal districts, you
find "miracle boxes" put in local churches: the gullible villager
writes out a paper mentioning his wish: a fishing boat, a loan for a
pukka house, fees for the son`s schooling… And lo, a few weeks
later, the miracle happens ! And of course the whole family
converts, making others in the village follow suit. During the
Tsunami, entire dalit villages in Tamil Nadu were converted to
Christianity with the lure of money

Then there is this rapid Westernization of India. There are good
things in the West: its material consciousness, care for Nature,
logical Mind, but it is nevertheless in crisis, its Church is in
disarray, three marriages out of five end in divorce and even some
children need to go to psychiatrists before they start shooting
other children. Yet, if you have a look at most of the mainstream
English-speaking Indian magazines and newspapers today, you will
notice that all their cover stories deal with western concepts, that
they are looking at India from a Western point of view, such as
talking about `New Age` spirituality, as if spirituality is new to
India, that there is never any reference to India`s great past, or
to India`s philosophy, or medicine (which is by the way becoming
fashionable in the West). Notice also that when the Pope of
Hinduism, the Shankaracharya of Kanchi, is arrested - and it could
not have been done without Sonia`s knowledge - the entire Indian
intelligentsia claps, though he still has not be proved guilty more
than one year later. And that when a new Pope is elected in Rome, we
gets in India hours of live coverage and countless cover stories.

Islamization, Westernization, Christianization, anti-Hinduism and
Marxisation are the five forces which Sonia has marshaled to subdue
India. The occult effect of it is that nobody realizes that in a
country of 850 million Hindus, you have now a Sikh Prime Minister -
when Sikhs constitute only 2% of the country`s population; a Muslim
President - when Muslims are only 10% in India; a communist leader
of Parliament - when communism is moribund the world over; and a
Western and Christian supreme leader, when Westerners constitute
only 0,0001% of India and Christians 3%. Where are the poor Hindus ?

What will happen if India becomes enough westernized at the social
level, Christianized and Islamized at the religious level and taken
over by the Marxists at the intellectual level ? Not only will India
lose its unique soul and just become another western clone in the
developing world, but the earth will lose something very precious:
an ancient knowledge, a irreplaceable way of being, which makes even
the most ordinary farmer or coolie carry something unique in his or
her genes: a tolerance, an acceptance that God can take many forms,
an innate philosophical mind, an understanding that there is
something beyond us, beyond death. Even Indian Christians are
different from any Christians in the world, Indian Muslims different
from any Muslims in the world. They would also lose.

Maybe it is thus necessary for Indians to see for themselves the
harmful effects of Sonia`s queenship : the oil for food scam, the
mistrust of Hindus, the bomb blasts, the deteriorating situation in
Kashmir, the proliferation of madrasas, the frenzied globalization,
the Christian conversion drive... Then only will they realize that
is important to have an Indian at the top, someone who is in touch
with India`s ideals and spirituality and not someone who is sold the
West and these alien western concepts which are Marxism and
Christianity.
