RN,

In the good olden days the shares were available at a cheap price and and all IPOs were offered at FV.So one could earn thro' dividends. But not after 2003.Due to book building process, when the 10 FV shares are offered at 300+ where is the question of dividend yield etc?So forget about DY in Bull market

My family lived in T'Nagar (Chennai) for many years and we had three good neighbours. There was an offer for a 5 grounds plot in that area and the price quoted was Rs 15K/ground.

My father declined the offer.

Neighbour A bought one ground at 15K and sold it after a few years for 20K

Neighbour B bought 2 grounds and sold one after many years for 100K and still owns one ground.

Neighbour C bought 2 grounds and still owns them.

The current going rate for those plots is Rs 2cr/ground!

Now tthe question for you..Of the above 4 who would be very happy and who would be very sad?Obviously you would say that neighbour C should be happy and my father should be sad.But in reality

My father is sad for obvious reasons

Neighbour A is sad for selling the plot too soon

Neighbour B is sad for selling the second plot

Neighbour C is sad for not buying the other three plots

RN, what we get or lose is purely due to OUR DESTINY and we should not dwell in the past. The distance between Teachers day and today is 364(days) and not one

This mail has to carry my sister's signature

Sarvam Krishnarpanam

PS: Kindly take the above story in the spirit it was intended and do not bombard me with questions like what was your father?what was his last drawn salary? Is he getting any pension now?Do you own any other house or plot in Chennai?Have you ever quarreled with your dad for not buying? etc etc...

RN,

1.The cardinal rule in MMB is do not ask a male his age and a female her income!.I am similar to Teledata mentally (never cross teens)

2.I am no finance guy and many times read leger as legder.I would suggest that you seek the help of a good CA who has knowledge on IT related issues and hire his services to file your returns. Our IT dept follows a bottom up approach viz tax evasions of two and three digits are scrutinised first before taking up six or seven digits. So be careful about these matters

3.Gambling can never be taught or learned. It has to come in the gene

4.Somehow you give me the impression of a teacher.Perhaps the world has lost a good teacher when you shifted to stocks. What is loss for the noble profession is a gain for Nobel profession..or vice versa

Cheers,

Dear novice1000,

Thank you for posting your views and I wish to clarify the following

K was attacking ICICI and also SBI and said the latter may escape since it belongs to GOI but the former would crash. He also said that this shock would be felt by all banking stocks whether they are party to subprime or not.

Generally he was highly pessimistic about the future of Indian mkts and opined that sensex may crash to sub 10K also.By end July in his last mail he said he has the solution to avert all the crisis and intends to publish the same.Subsequently he has not posted here till now.Perhaps he is in discussion with top US financial personnel explaining them of his methodology.Soon some good news may emerge

Secondly as I mentioned in my last mail,it is not my intention to dispute K or similar viewed boarders.I was just sharing my feeling that such boarders are very vociferous and blow up things out of proportion and so one has to study the situation and take his /her own decision

I am just an acct holder and not a shareholder of ICICI.

Now what are your views on GACL?Some strong rumour has been seeded that it would be diverting 30% of its earnings to Govt charities and welfare funds and the price has crashed by more than 15%

Regards,...
